Here is a review for the sequel to the hit game, Guitar Hero! I will try to be as un-bias about the game as possible
Overview: Play awesome rock songs. Earn cash. Unlock new songs, characters, guitars, venues, and more. Get a bassist (friend) and play together. HAVE FUN!
Gameplay: The gameplay is absolutely addicting. It won't take long before you will love to play this game. You use the Gibson SG controller to play the notes as they appear on screen. There are 5 "fret-buttons" on the controller that pertain to the 5 notes on screen. All you must do is hold a fret button down and hit the strum bar as the note crosses the line at the bottom of the screen. Easy, right? Well there's more! Two-note chords will appear frequently, though these should only take you a couple tries to get the hang of. And in this sequel, 3 note chords have also been added to the mix. For the advanced players, the Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs in this game have been improved. These techniques allow you to play a note without having to strum. Star power is an ability which doubles the multiplier that determines your score while also boosting your rock meter. The rock meter determines how well you are playing - when it turn red, you fail the song! This means that star power has some strategy attached to it - either use it when a long series of notes appear, or use it when you encounter a section that is difficult. With 55 licensed songs and even more bonus songs, you won't run out of things to do in this game!
Multiplayer: I gave this a separate section from the gameplay because it is an entire new experience. You can play versus or cooperative. Keeping the trend from the first game, there is the versus mode where you trade off parts in the song. Not my personal favorite, but it was awesome in the first game. Now in THIS game, there is a new versus mode that can be unlocked: pro face-off mode. Don't let the name scare you. In this mode, both players play the entire note chart for the song. Now you won't hear your friend whine that he had the harder part to play. The last mode is cooperative mode. This mode allows you and a friend to play both lead and either rhythm or bass guitar to finish the song. You both work together. This means that you share the same score, same star power bar, and same rock meter. You can unlock new bass guitars depending on how well you and your friend play.
Story: ?! This game doesn't need a story! Just imagine that you are an aspiring Rock God ;D
Graphics: The venues are awesome, the guitars and their finishes are really awesome, and the characters are all unique in their own ways. You get some good views of the venues from the changing camera angles
Sound: This wouldn't be much of a game if the sound was terrible! Every song it a cover, save for two ("Stop" and "John the Fisherman") and all the bonus songs. Though you may think the cover is terrible, you know they don't call this "Singing Hero." The guitar parts in every song are awesome and match perfectly with the notes as they come on screen. The songs are a variety of styles - rock, pop, punk, metal, alternative "death metal," and whatever else you want to call some. And the best part is, even if you hate a particular genre, you will love playing the song. For example, I hate all those "screaming songs" where the singer is yelling in a deep voice into a microphone. But one of the songs in this game is like this and I love playing it. There is something for everyone in this game
Replay Value: With tons of unlockables, four difficulty settings, and tons of multiplayer goodness, what isn't there to keep you playing?
I give Guitar Hero II:
11/10...cause this one goes up to 11
