[glow=red,2,300] Take-Two, FTC Finalize Resolution[/glow] The Grand Theft Auto investigation ends without hot coffee burns.by David Adams July 21, 2006 - Take-Two Interactive announced today it has reached a final resolution with the Federal Trade Commission, ending an inquiry prompted by the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas "hot coffee" controversy. The resolution solidifies the proposed settlement announced last month, whereby Take-Two and Rockstar Games must not misrepresent a game's ratings or content, and must ensure all content is reviewed properly by ratings authorities. The FTC is not penalizing Take-Two at this time. "We are extremely pleased that the FTC has concluded its very thorough investigation, and that the matter has been resolved," commented Take-Two President and CEO Paul Eibeler. "We recognize the importance of maintaining public confidence in the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rating system and helping the ESRB educate parents and consumers about the rating system. We look forward to putting this behind us and focusing on what we do best -- creating video games." The FTC originally charged that Take-Two and Rockstar violated the FTC Act by representing San Andreas as a "Mature"-rated game, failing to disclose the hidden "hot coffee" sexual mini-game. xbox.ign.com/articles/720/720179p1.html

[glow=red,2,300] Gears of War Release Slip?[/glow] Megadeth somehow involved.by Charles Onyett July 24, 2006 - According to a an official release by Microsoft today, Gears of War may be hitting store shelves as early as of September 2006. The release centered on Megadeth headlining Gigantour, a Microsoft sponsored metal tour hopping across 25 major market venues from early September to mid-October 2006. While no concrete release date was cited, there were some curious comments by Craig Davison, Director of Global Games Marketing for Xbox. "We're totally jazzed about the partnership between Gigantour 2006 and our forthcoming Xbox 360 blockbuster, 'Gears of War!'" says Davison. "Partnering a music extravaganza like GIGANTOUR with the launch of a mega-hit game like 'Gears of War' captures the excitement around two awesome happenings for fans of music and video games!" Launch? Does he mean Gears of War is launching at the start of, during, or at the end of Gigantour? In the very same paragraph, Davison mentions Gears of War will be available this holiday season. Still, gamers have to wonder what he meant. When contacted, Microsoft maintained that an official announcement regarding the Gears of War release date has yet to be made. xbox360.ign.com/articles/720/720625p1.html

[glow=red,2,300] Splinter Cell Double Agent Delayed -- Again[/glow] Sam Fisher holds back in the shadows a little longer.by David Adams July 27, 2006 - Buried in the company's first-quarter financial results today is word that Ubisoft will release Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent late in October, and not in September as last scheduled. While games are often delayed to provide more development time, in this case the change was strategic. According to a Ubisoft representative, the delay moves Double Agent into the company's holiday quarter, where Ubisoft expects strong sales of the title to contribute to year-end revenue. This isn't the first time Sam Fisher has been given a holding orders. Ubisoft previously moved the new title from March to September. Splinter Cell Double Agent, the fourth title in the popular stealth-action series, is currently in development for Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, GameCube, and PC. Ubisoft has yet to announce plans for a PlayStation 3 version of the game. xbox360.ign.com/articles/721/721427p1.html
