[glow=red,2,300]Japan To Get Final Fantasy-Themed And White DS Lites This Fall[/glow]
Wednesday, July 12, 2006 10:46 AM
Looks like our friends in Japan are going to be getting white DS Lites and Final Fantasy themed DS Lites this Fall.
According to my translation of this Japanese gaming site, Nintendo announced:
"Try fun DS lite for you, why not? Nintendo makes a happiness double times and divide sadness half with White and Final Fantasy."
"Life is full of pleasant gifts and surprises," the site added.

There are 3 different ways they build the systems for each major market (U.S., Japan, UK). It is slight variations, but you can't import (buy it on a japanese site and bring it over here) a japanese DS and then play U.S. games.

[glow=red,2,300]Nintendo DS Makes Film Debut[/glow]The dual-screened system is cast as a super spy gadget.by David Adams June 27, 2006 - Remember how in Independence Day Jeff Goldblum uses an Apple PowerBook to upload a nasty computer virus to the big nasty alien ship to finally stop the nasty invasion? That was so cool -- especially for Apple (though for the record, that particular PowerBook had some problems). Today, Nintendo announced that the DS will take its own "starring role" in a feature film. Upcoming "teen spy thriller" Stormbreaker will feature the Nintendo DS as the "ultimate spy gadget." Stormbreaker is based on the first book in the hit Alex Rider series by author Anthony Horowitz. When 14-year-old Alex Rider takes the place of his murdered super-spy uncle, he is given a Hot Rod Red Nintendo DS, which he is able to use as an eavesdropping device, a wiretap detector, or -- yes -- a smoke bomb. The trick? No one would suspect a kid with a Nintendo DS to be an undercover agent brandishing a crafty gadget. Nintendo was careful to point out that it does not intend to make spy-related DS functions available to the general public. Stormbreaker is scheduled to premier in the U.K. on July 21, and on October 6 in the U.S. ds.ign.com/articles/715/715264p1.html

[glow=red,2,300]Nintendo Responds to DS Cracks[/glow]Physical cracks are popping up on DS Lite hinges, and the company offers its official statement.by Craig Harris July 20, 2006 - Grab your Nintendo DS Lite. Go on, we'll wait. Close the system and look on the back, and focus on the hinges that connect the upper half to the lower half. If you see a physical cracking, you're among a growing minority of Nintendo DS Lite users who have discovered a slight defect in the system. The defect isn't detrimental to the enjoyment of DS gaming, and in fact it doesn't look like the crack does anything but put a blemish on your system's sleek exterior. At IGN, we have several DS Lite systems from the Japan, US, and European release. Only one of these units has the crack defect. The crack defect will appear on one of the edge hinge connectors (right). Still, this appearance is steadily making gamers uneasy, and it's a problem that's risen so much in the past few days that Nintendo of America has issued a statement concerning the problem: "In the U.S., the reported number of small cosmetic cracks in the plastic hinge of DS Lite systems represents less than 0.02 percent of the total units sold. This cosmetic issue in no way impacts the gameplay or integrity of the DS Lite. Nintendo stands behind the quality of our products and encourages DS Lite owners to contact our Customer Service Department if they are not happy with the functionality of their systems." What the cracks look like: media.ds.ign.com/articles/719/719927/img_3763569.htmlNintendo can be contacted at 1-800-255-3700. ds.ign.com/articles/719/719927p1.html

At Ben. The DS is region-free. One of it many awesome features. I can import a Japanese DS and then go buy American games and play them on the Jap DS. Vice versa and same with Europe. -NicK-

[glow=red,2,300] DS Lite Cyclone Charger Stand[/glow] A slick import for your DS Lite.by Gerry Block July 21, 2006 - Everyone loves the DS Lite, and as with any sexy electronics worthy of love and molded in smooth iPod-style plastic, it deserves to be displayed. The NDS Lite Cyclone Charger Stand was designed to showcase your DS Lite in all its glory, augmented by a cool neon glow. As the name suggests, the stand also charges the DS to keep it fresh. Power is supplied to the Cyclone stand by means of the DS Lite's original power cable, and an eject button will pop the DS out at a moment's notice. It's offered for export by gamestech.com, which may also be the manufacturer. You can also find it at this site, which has a slightly easier ordering process. See this link for pics. It looks so cool!! gear.ign.com/articles/720/720140p1.html

[glow=red,2,300] Nintendo Hits 21...Million, that is. [/glow] That's how many DS systems have sold worldwide. by Craig Harris July 24, 2006 - The horn's tooting again -- Nintendo today made the announcement that its Nintendo DS system has sold through more than 21 million units since the handheld debuted back in November 2004. To put it all in mainstream perspective, Nintendo once again compares the Nintendo DS to Apple's sales-blazing iPod system -- which sputtered out of the gate with only a million units sold in the same 19 month time. "We're thrilled to be announcing this milestone today," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, "especially since Nintendo DS was North America's top-selling video game system of any type in June. We attribute this success to Nintendo's overall strategy of offering something for everyone -- from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day." The launch of the sleeker, sexier, Nintendo DS Lite earlier this year didn't hurt things, either. ds.ign.com/articles/720/720589p1.html

[glow=red,2,300] Nintendo Profits Climb on DS Success[/glow] Touching is good for the bottom line.by David Adams July 24, 2006 - Nintendo reported a 10.2 percent increase in first-quarter net profit today, crediting the healthy earnings to the success of the Nintendo DS Lite and hit games for the system, such as Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros. During the quarter Nintendo sold 4.54 million DS units -- three times more than the 1.38 million sold a year before. Software sales for the system were even more impressive: Nintendo sold 18.4 million DS game titles in the first quarter, compared to 5.3 million in the same period last year. All told, the Nintendo DS has sold more than 21 million units since it debuted in November 2004. Nintendo expects to sell 17 million DS units in fiscal 2006. By contrast, the Game Boy Advance sold 680,000 units in the quarter, down from 980,000 in Q1 last year. The GameCube sold 150,000 units, below 260,000 in last year's first quarter. For its first quarter ended in June, Nintendo's net income climbed to 15.6 billion yen ($134.3 million), above 14.1 billion yen last year. The company posted sales of 130.9 billion yen ($1.1 billion) for the quarter, an 85 percent increase from 70.7 billion yen in the same period last year. Invigorated by the quarter's earnings, Nintendo has increased its annual net income forecast to 83 billion yen, above the previously forecast 65 billion yen. ds.ign.com/articles/720/720637p1.html
